Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Bellary was established in 2000. Its a state university established by the Government of Karnataka through the Karnataka State Universities Act 2000. It is a affiliating university with about 100 affiliated colleges offering both undergraduate and post graduate programs. The university covers the districts of Bellary and Koppal. The region where is university is located is considered economically and educationally backward compared to national and state average. Hence the university endearvours to embark on innovative means of higher education in order to make it both qualitative and affordable. The university at present has around 9000 undergraduate and 1000 post graduate students. Their vision is to building youth who realize the power of their mind through education (The university logo has in it carved the famous line "Dhiyo yo naha prachodayath" from the Gayathri Manthra, which means 'envisioning the power of mind'.
