About the MANNU

The Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) was established in 1998 by an Act of the Parliament as a Central University with an All India jurisdiction. The University has started functioning from 9th January 1998 with headquarters at Hyderabad. The University is fully funded by the University Grants Commission and functions under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The University offers postgraduate, graduate, diploma and certificate courses through distance education. It has uniquely partnered with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. MANNU has also made progress in the front of campus education by establishing (06) Schools and (12) Departments, and offering 28 programmes of study. A Department of Translation, Women's Education and Centre of Women's Studies too have been established to offer courses at the post-graduate level keeping in mind the mandate of the University to provide focus on women's education. The Department of Education too is functioning by offering Diploma in Education (D.Ed.) and Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.) courses. University has launched innovative programmes like PG Diploma in Tourism and PG Diploma in Museology in the new academic year. The University Grants Commission has sanctioned Model Schools at Hyderabad and Darbhanga on the pattern of CBSE. The Schools shall offer the programmes from 1st to Xth Class. The Academy is fully funded by the UGC. Vocational Courses: The University is establishing Industrial Training Institutes at Hyderabad, Bangalore, Darbhanga and Srinagar. The process of affiliation from NCVT is in progress.
